I can’t vouch for Sears quality, but buying secondhand is a serious crap shoot. You don’t want a table that smells funny, or is dirty, breaking, etc.
I would prefer a 2nd-hand solid wood (not veneer) table than a veneer new piece. on the downside, you’ll spend a fair amount of time driving around to look at stuff you won’t buy. It doesn’t matter if it has matching chairs - eclectic is OK.
